Big changes are coming to key Canaveral Port Authority personnel and the multimillion dollar deals they manage.

The Port Authority charter for Port Canaveral will see some major changes now that the Florida Legislature signed off on some new measures.

Among the changes are term limits for port commissioners, a new supermajority vote requirement on land use and long-term leases, improved transparency, and a new process for approving and borrowing money for port projects.

The Canaveral Port Authority appointed a committee to review and analyze the charter. Those recommendations were sent to the legislature, who approved them during the session that recently concluded.

The Port Authority expects Gov. Rick Scott to sign off on the legislation.
