Ormond Beach police say an 89-year-old man shot and killed his wife inside their Volusia County before turning it on himself.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. Friday at a home on Ribbon Falls Drive inside The Falls gated community.

John Poucher called 911 and told the dispatcher he had just shot his wife, who was suffering from Alzheimer's.

Dispatcher: 911, where is your emergency?
Poucher: Yes, I want to report a shooting at Ormond Beach, Florida.
Dispatcher: OK, what do you mean shooting? What’s happened?
Poucher: My wife was killed.
Dispatcher: Ok, do you know who killed her?
Poucher: I did.
Dispatcher: You did?
Poucher: Yes.
Dispatcher: Are you there?
Poucher: She’s suffering from Alzheimer’s. And I’m here.

Poucher stayed on the line for a bit longer and then hung up.

When police arrived at the home, they found Poucher dead, sitting in a living room chair. His wife, 86-year-old Barbra Poucher, was located deceased in the bedroom.

Both had gunshot wounds to the head.

Police are calling this a murder-suicide.

A gun was recovered from the home.

Police said they're still trying to piece together what exactly led up to the shootings.
