A 14-year-old student has been arrested for poisoning his teachers drink with intent to kill or injure.

According to police, the incident began on Tuesday, when a student was repeatedly using her cell phone in the classroom.

The teacher, Ana Morejon, asked an administrator to visit the class the following day.

When the administrator arrived on Wednesday, Morejon walked into the hallway to speak with her about the behavioral issue in her classroom.

During this time, most of the students lined up to be taken to lunch.

But police say that's when one student committed a first-degree felony.

Investigators say the boy noticed Morejon left her water cup on her desk, with a lid on it, but next to a pump-style bottle of hand sanitizer.

The suspect approached Morejon's desk, and according to witnesses, pumped the bottle twice, squirting the hand sanitizer directly into the teacher's drink.

Witnesses say the boy then picked the cup up, and shook it in a circular motion, to mix the sanitizing liquid in with her water.

The administrator then took the entire class to the lunchroom, while Morejon stayed behind in her classroom.

She took a sip of her water, and noticed a chalky, flowery flavor. She took a second sip and was able to confirm her suspicions.

The teacher notified the administrator, just before two students who witnessed the crime came forward with information.

Police interviewed the boy, who tried to cover up his actions as an accident.

But investigators didn't buy it.

After questioning the boy, police were able to determine the boy introduced, added, and mixed the hand sanitizer into the victim's drink.

He's been charged with poisoning an individuals food, water or medicine with intent to injure or kill, a first-degree felony charge.

He was released into his parents custody, and given a notice to appear.
