Orlando police continue to search for a vehicle and suspects connected to a deadly drive-by shooting.

Around 8 p.m. Monday, police responded near the intersection of South Lucerne Terrace and West Sturtevant Street. The area is right behind Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies and about a block away from both Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Police said two men were walking when a white, four-door, newer-model Nissan pulled up next to the victims with three or four men inside.

A verbal altercation ensued between both parties. Detectives said someone in the vehicle fired shots at the victims.

"It was reported that the suspects never exited the car. That they fired those shots from inside the car at the victims," Sgt. Jim Young said.

Twenty-year-old Alex Mazzan was shot, while the other man flagged down an Orange County Corrections van for help.

Mazzan was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The surviving victim spoke with police.

"There is no indication that he knows who they are," Young said. "It does not appear that they knew who these suspects were."

Mazzan's sister, Kelli Severt, said Tuesday that the suspects "went out of their way to do this."

"They went out of their way to take a brother, a son, a father, out of here for something so minor and peventable ... for something stupid," Severt said.

All three hospitals were placed on lockdown for approximately 90 minutes as police investigated and processed the crime scene.

Police have not identified the cause of the shooting.
