A Deltona mother and her teen are spending their first full day together in four years, after the teen was abducted by her father in 2009, and found in the hills of Mexico.

12-year-old-Cara-Cox will share her first birthday tomorrow by her mother's side in four years.

The newly-reunited mother and daughter are not speaking to media, a family member told News 13 the family just wants their privacy right now.

According the Volusia County Sheriff's office, Cara's abduction happened in 2009.

While her mother, Jodie Borchert had legal custody, her father Aaron cox had visitation rights.

"There was an arrangement where he would drop off the child at a daycare and then she would pick up the child at the daycare. she showed up as she normally would have and the child was not there," said Brandon Haught, Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Both Cox and Cara vanished.

Borchert contacted sheriff's deputies and what followed was four years of false leads until this past week.

"The case broke here this week. On Monday we got a good viable tip that he was spotted with the child in Mexico," said Haught.

Both were spotted in the hills of Hidalgo two hours outside of Mexico city.

Coordination between U.S. Marshall's and the state department, and with other law enforcement agencies, were set in motion.

By Saturday Cara was reunited with her mother at the Miami international airport.

Cox was taken into custody and taken to a Miami jail, to await extradition to Volusia County.

It's a reunion Cara's Deltona neighbors are celebrating as well.

"Four years. It's truly amazing to have a happy ending after four years," said Charlene Viriyakul, a neighbor of Jodie Borchert. "A lot of times you always have a negative ending."

VCSO has not yet released information on Cox's extradition.
