A bill dubbed the Florida Dream Act is still under debate by a divided Senate.

The "Dream Act" would grant in-state college tuition to the foreign-born children of undocumented immigrants.

Today, it's fate will be decided the State Senate.

The chamber started debating the act late in the session on Wednesday, and will return early Thursday to the finish the debate and cast an up-or-down vote.

The bill's sponsor, Jack Latvala says students who have lived in Florida for decades and have attended any of Florida's high schools have earned the right to pay lower tuition.

But the act's critics complain that it would reward illegal immigrants and limit state financial aid.

"Students who are legal residents of Florida, and their families, will have to compete for those limited funds with other additional students now, resulting in them having diminished ability to have waivers granted to them." Said Senator Joe Negron.

The "Dream Act" has already passed the State House.

If the bill does pass the Senate today, it'll head to the desk of Governor Rick Scott, who's promising to sign it into law.
