Electric car drivers can now charge their vehicles in the downtown Melbourne area.

The city unveiled its second electric car charging station Tuesday afternoon. This one is in the city hall parking lot on Strawbridge Avenue.

It's a level three station -- the first in Brevard County.

Meaning any new vehicle like a Leaf, Volt or Tesla can get a quick re-charge in just minutes, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

They could do it while doing some shopping in Melbourne.

"I can plug up down here, spend some money downtown, and come back to a nice, full charge, while using less gasoline," said electric car owner Josh Pritt.

Pritt is part of the "Space Coast E-V Drivers," whose goal is to tout the use of electric cars over traditional gasoline-only run vehicles.
