Deputies in Osceola County are warning the public about a jury phone scam.

Two residents recently received phone calls from an individual who identified himself as a lieutenant with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. The man told the people that a warrant has been issued for missing jury duty and that he can make arrangements for them to provide payment by purchasing a prepaid money card.

In both instances, the individuals purchased the prepaid money cards and provided the numbers to the suspect, deputies said.

Here is some basic information if you receive a call:

  • Never give out personal information when you receive an unsolicited phone call.
  • If the caller asks you for money, do not make arrangements to provide payment.
  • The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, which oversees jury duty services, advises the public to contact them by calling Osceola County Jury Services at 407-742-2421.
  • The Osceola County Sheriff's Office does not contact individuals regarding jury duty.

Anyone with information or who has received a similar call is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff's Office at 407-348-2222 or CrimeLine at 800-423-TIPS (8477).

Calls made to CrimeLine remain anonymous, and tips that lead to the felony arrest of suspects and/or the recovery of stolen property and drugs are eligible for $1,000.
