An Osceola County deputy, Michael Maccallum, 30, is on paid administrative leave after a shooting Sunday evening.

He has been a deputy with OCSO since December of 2006 and currently is assigned to the Patrol Division.
 
The suspect, Ridge David White, 26, is a registered felon and sex offender.

It started around 5:30 a.m. Sunday as a traffic stop at Eaglet Lane and Cheyenne Point Trail in the Indian Point neighborhood.

A Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said Deputy Maccallum was trying to arrest the White for having drugs or an outstanding warrant for violating his probation.

White then hit the Maccallum and ran away from the scene.

Maccallum caught up with White, during a struggle, the deputy fired his gun, striking the White at least once.

Maccallum was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and released.

White was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he is in critical condition at last check.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation.
