The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting incident that left one person dead near Ormond Beach.

Deputies responded to a home on Seabreeze Drive around 2:52 a.m. Sunday about a shooting, according to Brandon Haught, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, they found 55-year-old Sanford Olson dead on a bed inside the home with a gun beside him.

Witnesses said Olson's wife, 57-year-old Doris Barrells shot him. She then ran to a neighbor's house and called 911, saying the shooting was an accident.

Barrells was taken into custody and questioned by investigators.

According to the neighbor, the couple had a history of squabbles but no hardcore fighting.

No charges have been filed in the shooting. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
