An Osceola County deputy is on paid administrative leave after a shooting Sunday evening.

It started around 5:30 a.m. Sunday as a traffic stop at Eaglet Lane and Cheyenne Point Trail in the Indian Point neighborhood.

A Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said the deputy was trying to arrest the suspect for having drugs or an outstanding warrant for violating his probation.

The suspect then hit the deputy and ran away from the scene.

The deputy caught up with the man. During a fight, the deputy fired his gun, striking the suspect at least once.

The deputy was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and released.

The suspect was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he is in critical condition at last check.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation.
