It's an Easter weekend tradition in Daytona Beach with a twist over the last few years.

Daytona Beach firefighters were on the sand Saturday morning in full gear with a little addition: running shoes.

Firefighters have been running in the Easter Beach Run since it began back in 1967. But over the last few years, a small group has donned its full gear plus running shoes to take on the two-mile fun run.

It's a great conversation starter, too.

"We show the average citizen what it is we do on a normal basis -- some of the gear we wear," said Lt. Larry Stoney, of the Daytona Beach Fire Department. "Just to start up a conversation. It's been an ongoing thing for the last four years.

The rising tide made this morning's run a little tougher than usual, forcing all runners -- including the firefighters -- to take on the softer sand up the beach.
