A precautionary boil water notice affecting more than 10,000 customers in coastal Brevard County has been lifted.

The alert was issued Tuesday after a car hit a fire hydrant. The repair work caused a water line to becom dislodged at a major water main.

Customers from Pineda Causeway to East Eau Gallie Boulevard were affected.

Testing has determined the water is now safe to drink.
