It's official: College basketball's postseason is coming back to Orlando -- not for one, but for two years.

The American Athletic Conference will be at the Amway Center for its postseason tournament in 2016 and 2017.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon. In March, the Amway Center hosted the second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament, which brought in millions of dollars to Central Florida's economy and helped fill thousands of hotel rooms in the Orlando area.

AAC officials said that Orlando is the place to have the games because the University of Central Florida is in the conference, and the Amway Center is one of the top arenas in the country.

"Oh, what a big day for Orlando," Mayor Buddy Dyer said. "Back in 2007, when we were talking about bringing the venues to life, this is exactly the type of marquee event we envisioned bringing to Orlando."

"What we want to do is make sure we provide you with great competition with a lot of visitors, and I believe we will," said ACC Commissioner Mike Aresco.

Dyer is expected to make another sports-related announcement on Wednesday, but News 13 has already confirmed that Orlando will soon be hosting a third college football bowl game called the Cure Bowl at the newly renovated Citrus Bowl.
