A serious crash in Volusia County shut down State Road 44 eastbound for six hours near I-95 Monday, causing heavy delays during the busy morning commute.
Investigators said a Boran Jocic, 37, crashed his pickup truck into the back of a flatbed tractor-trailer that was slowing down to make a U-turn.
Jocic was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he was said to be in critical condition.
The driver of the flatbed, 58-year-old Steve Fitzgerald, was not injured. His truck, however, was disabled, blocking all eastbound lanes on SR-44 for hours.
The flatbed truck was disabled in the crash resulting in the closure of eastbound SR-44 for over six hours, while the load was transferred to another truck.
The road was cleared around noon Monday.
No charges were immediately filed.
