A Flagler County man is under arrest for child abuse after deputies said he caused injuries that left a child in critical condition.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday deputies were called to Florida Hospital Flagler after Stanley Wykretowicz, 38, of Palm Coast brought a 2‐year‐old girl to the hospital emergency room who was unresponsive and had bruising on her body from head to toe. Deputies said the child was examined and then flown to Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville where she is listed in critical but stable condition.

Detectives said they spoke with Wykretowicz who was the last person with the child and he told them he is her primary caregiver and that she had fallen in the bath tub on Sunday hitting her head on the spout and that she had fallen while she was attempting to get out of the bathtub on Monday hitting her abdomen on the side of the tub.

The Sheriff’s Office said he told detectives that he noticed that the child’s abdomen appeared to be bloated so he put his finger down the child’s throat in an attempt to make the child vomit.

According to doctors, the 2‐year‐old girl needed abdominal surgery to repair a laceration to the colon and had severe injuries that appeared to be several days old and that those injuries appeared to have been caused by blunt force trauma.

Investigators said they obtained an arrest warrant for Wykretowicz and arrested him Wednesday charging him with Aggravated Child Abuse and Neglect of a Child Causing Great Bodily Harm.

Wykretowicz is being held at the Flagler County Detention Facility on $150,000 bond.
