The Seminole County woman accused of burying her child's body in Putnam County has been charged with the child's murder.

Sanford Police said Rachel Fryer admitted to burying her dead child, 2-year-old Tariji Gordon, in a shallow grave in Crescent City earlier this month.

At the time, Fryer was charged with aggravated child abuse.

The Department of Children and Families said Tariji died as a result of abuse or neglect.

According to a police interview with the child's father, Timothy Gordon, he said he saw Fryer push the child onto the floor on Feb. 6, with Tariji hitting a step. Gordon reported Fryer seemed to be frustrated with potty training Tariji.

About an hour later, a case manager from Community Based Care visited the family. The case manager said he saw Tariji sleeping and she opened her eyes. He told police they she did not appear to have any injuries.

Fryer reportedly told police she later found the child unresponsive and tried to revive her for 30 minutes. She then put her in a suitcase, hitched a ride with a friend and buried her.

According to the medical examiner, Tariji died from blunt force trauma to the head. It led to bleeding on the right side of the brain. The child also had injuries in various stages of healing, including bite marks police said are linked to Fryer.

The family was regularly visited by a case worker with Community Based Care of Central Florida, which contracts with DCF.

Sanford Police have also reopened the death investigation into Fryer's 2-month-old son, who died in 2011. Tavont'ae was Tariji's twin brother.
