A 2-year-old boy is dead after being found in a fenced-in pond near an apartment complex in Pine Hills, Orange County deputies said Tuesday.

Isaiah Gedeon was reported missing shortly before 1 p.m. from the Emerald Villas Apartments, on Cholla Way, off Pine Hills Road north of Silver Star Road.

Neighbors said the child got out of the apartment.

A short time later, deputies said a neighbor and an employee at the apartment complex found the boy in the pond. The pair started performing CPR on the child before deputies took over.

"A bunch of us were looking for the baby, because it's a toddler, so another guy that lived in the complex saw the child in the pond, went over, got the child out," said Andrene Nembhard, a neighbor who helped look for the child. "The maintenance guys, one of them opened the gate to go inside to help get the child out, and it was not a pretty sight. You don't want to be seeing a baby breathless, because I have kids."

Isaiah was transported to Florida Hospital South, where he was pronounced dead.
