An Orange County school bus driver was ticketed and could face charges after a crash Monday that sent 10 people to the hospital.

Investigators said the bus driver pulled out in front of a car at the intersection of Winter Garden-Vineland Road and Mystic Circle just before 9 a.m. The PT Cruiser slammed into the bus, almost going under it.

"I feel worried for my friends," said Nydia Booker, a seventh-grader on the bus. "I feel worried for myself, also. I feel really weak -- chest pains, mostly my asthma. My arms are weak. I don't know. It just hurts really, really bad."

Nydia said it all happened so quickly, it took everyone on the bus by surprise.

"No one actually knew that was going to happen," she recalled. "She just straightly, fastly turned, and everybody just flew to the side. Everybody was like, 'What happened?'"

Nydia was one of 50 students headed to Bridgewater Middle School when the bus driver, 55-year-old Linda Rickerson, turned out of the Abaco Key Apartments and into oncoming traffic.

That was when the crash happened, sending nine students and the driver of the PT cruiser, 26-year-old Bethany Schivley, to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol ticketed Rickerson for violation of right of way, and she could face more charges.

Nydia said despite the crash, she considered Rickerson a good bus driver.

"I don't know what happened," said Nydia. "I guess she was late today or something. She was just going really fast. It just happened in the blink of an eye."

The Orange County School Board said it takes the safety of their students seriously.
