Fog mixed with heavy smoke from a prescribed burn created low visibility on I-95 in Brevard County, near Titusville early Saturday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol said it is still monitoring conditions from the prescribed burn that began Friday near Taylor Creek and State Road 50.

Visibility on the interstate is especially a concern around mile marker 212, near State Road 407. Troopers urged drivers in that area to use caution, slow down and turn on their low-beam headlights.

Driving safely in smoke

If you encounter smoke while driving:

  • Slow down.
  • Use windshield wipers in heavy fog.
  • Turn on your low-beam headlights.
  • Pull over and stop if the smoke becomes too thick. Be sure to turn on your emergency flashers.
  • Keep enough space so you can safely exit your vehicle without obstructing traffic.
  • Report smoke to the nearest Florida Highway Patrol office.
