A woman was found dead in her bedroom at a home in Clermont Thursday, and fire crews think a space heater may have caused the fire.

The home was on Charter Oaks Trail.

Lake County Fire Rescue Captain Steve Race said it only took them five minutes to get to the fire, but their response time wasn’t fast enough.

Crews were called out to the house fire on Charter Oaks Trail  in Clermont around 6 o’clock Thursday night. After they got the fire under control, they searched the home and found a woman in her 80’s lying on the bedroom floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of this fire.

“The biggest thing is safety," said Race. "These heater units, people get too close, carelessly leave clothing near the space heaters. You want to leave that three-foot safety space.  Just be conscious of that type of tragedy. It only takes seconds.”

The victim’s name has not been released yet.
