The St. John's River Water Management District has decided that the Niagara Bottling company can increase the amount of water it is pumping from the ground.

The deal is contingent on the Lake County bottling company gradually shifting its water withdrawal from Florida's Upper aquifer to the lower aquifer.

Niagara will be permitted to increase its daily withdrawal from 484,000 gallons of water per day to 910,000 gallons a day.

Under the deal the total withdrawal must come from the lower aquifer by the year 2024 or Niagara it will lose its permit.

The Groveland based company must also begin reducing the water it takes from the upper aquifer by 2016.

The Water District claims this move will eventually reduce Niagara’s impact on water resources in Lake County.
