It’s just talk right now, but Palm Coast city leaders want the city’s legal staff to take a closer look at the red light camera contract it has with an Arizona company.

An appeals court in South Florida has ruled a private company, like American Traffic Solutions, cannot issue traffic citations.

Palm Coast is still issuing $158 violation notices, but the more expensive Uniform Traffic Citation is not sent if that first violation is not paid.

Council members asked the city attorney to research what would happen if the entire program was suspended, and the contract with American Traffic Solutions was violated.

City Manager Jim Landon told the council ATS wanted the city to issue those Uniform Traffic Citations.

He refused.
