A 4-year-old boy is hospitalized after he was shot in a drive by shooting late Monday night in Orange County.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said a 20-year-old man was babysitting two brothers, ages 3 and 4, in a home on Golf Club Parkway in Pine Hills.

The babysitter says he, the children, and a 17-year-old, were in the back bedroom when they heard gunshots.  The babysitter grabbed the children and laid on the bedroom floor during the gunfire.

Deputies arrived and found the 4-year-old boy had been shot in the hip area.

Neighbor Ray Sloan said he heard the gunshots and came outside when first responders got here.      

“The ambulance pulled up. He came out. I came out stood by the driveway. The brought the little baby out. Then the ambulance treated him, drove off. I didn’t see anyone else,” said Sloan.

The boy is being treated at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.
