Lazaro Fonteboa has spent the last month at Florida Hospital in Orange County. He was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic kidney cancer.

Fonteboa and his wife, Tracey, have spent the time away from their three young children while Lazaro, 34, undergoes treatment.

"The kids ... miss him," Tracey Fonteboa said. "They miss me because I've been living here with him."

Amid the sadness, however, Fonteboa has remained positive.

"He came in (and) he had this personality," said Akshay Chokshi, a radiation therapist. "He joked with us the first day."

Betty McCoy,  another radiation specialist helping treat Lazaro Fonteboa's cancer, asked him where he would take his wife on a date if he could. Lazaro Fonteboa said he wanted to take Tracey to Infusion Tea, in Orlando.

And so, the team of clinicians transformed a hospital room into a romantic tea room.

"I feel like it's my job, not just to treat Lazaro for his cancer, but to treat him like I would want to be treated," said Lisa Cashon, another radiation therapist. "Treat him like I would my brother, and that's what I wanted to do."

Infusion Tea, one of the couple's favorite restaurants, donated the food for the special date.

Laz, as he's called by many, is adamant he was supposed to meet the three clinicians that are treating his cancer.

"It touched the soul," he said. "It's really part of the healing process without the medical science involved. Beautiful people doing beautiful things."
