An Orange County planning and zoning commission has rejected the proposal of putting a new K through 8 school in Wedgefield in East Orange County.

The school was meant to be a two-story facility for 1,030 students.

For months, the community has been divided on whether the school should be built in the rural area.

While many saw a need for a community school, others did not want the noise and the traffic a school would provide, preferring Wedgefield to be more rural.

The proposal will still be brought before County Commissioners at a public hearing in the future.
