Gas prices are plunging everyday, and that could lead to a big tourist boom for Central Florida this holiday season.

Prices have fallen below $2.50 a gallon in many parts of the country. In Central Florida you can find gas prices in the $2.30s a gallon.

AAA said the holidays will see even more travelers on the roadways. Tourism experts predict many of those travelers will make the trip to Orlando.

“Gas prices should continue falling throughout the rest of this year," said Mark Jenkins with AAA. "Right now they’re falling at a rate of one to two cents a day, which means we could see a 15 to 20 cent decline by Christmas Day.”

With the United States producing more oil, supply is up and prices are plunging. These are the cheapest gas prices since 2008.

“[Orlando is] one of the cheapest vacations you can do if you don’t want to fly, you can get in your car,” said Howard Tate.

“More visitors will choose Orlando this year for one reason, our theme parks," said Mark Jaronski with Visit Orlando. "We’re the theme park capital of the world.”

Experts said the holidays are normally a busy time for Central Florida, so they say the lower gas prices will not only impact the number of people visiting, but how much money they spend.

“Because they have more money in their pockets to spend on shopping, dining out, lodging and just overall travel expenses,” Jenkins said.

Now if oil prices continue to fall the way they are, AAA said there is a chance we could see gas prices as low as $2 a gallon, but it could take another month or two.
