Following four years of discussions, the City of Casselberry will merge its fire department with Seminole County.

Commissioners with the City of Casselberry and Seminole County voted unanimously this week to consolidate the city’s fire and emergency medical services with the county’s fire and rescue system.

Seminole County has been handling the City’s dispatch calls for 27 years and they have had a joint response agreement for years.

The city says the consolidation will reduce duplication of services, save tax dollars for residents and have no negative impact on the high level of fire and rescue services.

Two other cities, Altamonte Springs and Winter Springs, have successfully consolidated their fire and rescue service with the county.

The City’s two fire stations, Station 21 on Seminola Boulevard and Station 25 on Red Bug Lake Road, will remain open.

All Casselberry fire and emergency medical services employees will become employees of Seminole County.

The transition is expected to be completed by October 2015.
