People are paying close attention to elections today. And the state is paying very close attention to elections in Flagler County.

Voters won't find Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Kimberle Weeks' name on the ballot, but her name still casts a shadow in the county on Election Day.

Continued fighting between Weeks and fellow members of the county's Canvassing Board has brought in Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators to look into allegations that Weeks illegally recorded another member's conversations. An observer from the state's Division of Elections was also brought in to see how this election is run.

Weeks has countered by calling out several members of the Flagler County Board of County Commission and Al Hadeed, the county attorney, for what she calls ethical errors.

Weeks calls the situation a "smoke screen," adding: "For the Board of County Commissioners and the county administration and county attorney to put up there, the state has to come and seek oversight. These things wouldn't be going smooth if there was an issue in this county."

Weeks said the issues won't get in the way of running a smooth election, but some voters aren't so sure that's the case.

Alicia Wilson, of Palm Coast, said she's tired of seeing politics work its way into everything.

"It's a lot that can be done here, but they got to stop the politicking," Wilson said. "You've got to just be honest and look at somebody in their eyes, like I'm looking at you and say, 'Let's talk.'"

Weeks said she welcomes any observer from the state, adding that they routinely come down to watch the election process in Flagler County.
