Plans for the demolition of the Merita Bread facility are underway after the iconic neon sign for the company was taken down earlier this month in Orange County.

The 50-year-old property, which closed in 2012, was recently sold for $2 million to Maudlin International Trucks.

It will eventually become the company’s new sales and maintenance center and replace the current facility at South Division Avenue.

The facility will be larger and add about 50 jobs.

Meanwhile, the neon Merita signs were donated to the Morse Museum in Winter Park.
