An Ocoee High School track coach is out of jail, accused of having sex with a student in Orange County.

Brian Pitts, 49, was arrested Tuesday, charged with two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of custodial authority.

According to the affidavit for arrest warrant obtained by News 13, Pitts is a math teacher at Acceleration Academy West in the Orange County Public Schools district. He was formerly a teacher at Ocoee High.

The alleged incidents took place at Pitts’ home in Apopka during the spring 2014 track season. The alleged victim was on his team.

One incident is alleged to have occurred in Pitts’ bedroom, where he allegedly had sex with the then 16-year-old girl.

A separate incident is alleged to have occurred in Pitts’ living room, where he allegedly inappropriately touched the girl, while she was stretching on his floor.

Pitts was released Wednesday on $100,150 bond.

He was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, but the case was referred to them by the Ocoee Police Department, who learned of the alleged incidents during a separate investigation earlier this week.

News 13 has reached out to the school district for a comment, but has not heard back.

However, the arrest warrant stated an OCPS official in the district’s security office called the DCF Abuse Hotline to report the claims before Pitts was arrested.

That call was placed by a district official after the girl and her mother filed a formal complaint with OCPS about Pitts.
