A Volusia County deputy said she was forced to use a Taser on a high school student in order to break up a fight Monday.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, two male students at Spruce Creek High School, in Port Orange, started fighting when the final bell rang at the end of the school day.

A school resource officer tried to break up the fight between the two students, a ninth-grader and an 11th-grader. But when they wouldn't stop, she fired her Taser, striking the older boy.

Video of the incident was posted on YouTube on Tuesday, showing the deputy deploying the Taser and taking out handcuffs once the student was on the ground.

Neither student was seriously hurt, and both were released to their parents' custody.

In a written statement to News 13, Gary Davidson, spokesman for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, said the officer remains on the job.

The resource officer in the video remains on duty because she did nothing wrong by deploying the device. She used the tools she has to take control of and diffuse a situation which could have escalated.

Davidson said the Sheriff's Office was conducting interviews and reviewing the use of force, but based on what they have seen so far, the resource officer was justified in deploying the Taser.

Investigators said both students could face misdemeanor charges.
