The search continues for suspects after a boy, 12, was injured in a drive-by-shooting in Leesburg Sunday afternoon.

The Leesburg Police Department said the shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Church Street.

Investigators said the boy was sitting on the porch when someone started shooting at the apartment complex with a small caliber handgun.

The boy was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in stable condition at that time.

Officers canvassed the area, speaking with witnesses and neighbors hoping to gather information on the shooter.

“I would want someone to speak up if it was my child.” Explained one of the boys neighbors who asked not to be identified. “It’s an innocent child sitting on the porch. So if you know something, then forget about all this thinking that you’d be a snitch and all this, it doesn’t matter, because you have a child involved.”

Police believe the car is possibly a gray or blue Chrysler 300, or a similar-style vehicle, with tinted windows.

“We are trying to determine whether folks had a beef with one another, we don’t know. But obviously the twelve year old certainly had no cause to be in the middle of this shooting,” said Major Steve Rockefeller, Leesburg Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Leesburg Police Department at (352) 728-9786.
