Attendance and revenue continues to fall at SeaWorld parks, and the company is now implementing a savings plan to keep the the company out of trouble.

Attendance for SeaWorld's parks was 8.4 million for the third quarter of 2014, versus 8.9 million for the same quarter last year.

Attendance has fallen all year at SeaWorld's parks.

Revenue also fell -- $495.8 million for the 2014 third quarter versus $538.4 million in 2013.

SeaWorld said the decline comes from a combination of factors, including negative publicity from Blackfish and continuing pressure from animal activisits, along with the delay in opening Falcon's fury at Busch Gardens in Tampa. SeaWorld's president Jim Atchinson also cited increased competition from Orlando's theme parks, particularly Universal's Harry Potter expansion.

SeaWorld will be implementing a $50 million savings plan in the new year. Atchinson did not go into details of what would be in that savings plan.

The two projects that SeaWorld is really banking on will be the new Blue Ocean expansion and new parks internationally. Blue Ocean will significantly expand the killer whale habitats at SeaWorld San Diego by 2018, with plans to bring it to the other SeaWorld parks later.

SeaWorld also is planning a new marketing campaign for its parks.
