Each fall, where Orange County and Lake County meet, is awash in green and gold.
"We grow 600 acres in the fall," said farmer Hank Scott of his pickle crop.
Since 1963, the Long and Scott Farm in Zellwood has grown pickled cucumbers for Claussen and that famous sweet corn you’ve heard about. But this time of year, folks just don't eat the corn, they play in it.
"It's not about the corn. It's about the adventure,” Hank said from atop a 40-foot-tall platform overlooking the 13th corn maze he’s grown.
The 7-acre corn maze is open through mid-December and has quite the reputation for luring folks in.
"There is a lot of corn,” admits Zach Rodriguez from Ocoee upon exiting.
The Rodriguez family spent about 30 minutes inside trying to find their way out. Bridges halfway through have guides who are happy to help the stranded.
Getting lost happens easily around these parts. That's why upon entering, folks grab an American flag on a stick.
"If you are lost, you just wave it up in the air and the people in the tower will come get you,” explains Zhane Rodriguez.
And bring a few extra dollars. The only thing moving faster than the confused in this maze of maize is liquid refreshment.
From the bridge, those who are thirsty can request a bottle of water be lowered down to them.
"It was challenging but fun. I never gave up and finally got to the end,” admits new Floridian Chad Alday.
The former Virginia resident got mixed up not in the corn, rather the new rope maze.
"The ropes can't cross, but yet, somehow it's configured where you just can't figure out how to get to the middle,” Chad explained.
After 20 minutes he made it to the center of the rope maze and rang the bell.
A fishing pond, bounce pillow and tractor ride through the fields rounds out the day.
"I want them to have a great time as a family, be one of the best family events they have ever been to and know that us farmers are doing our best to keep them fed,” farmer Hank Scott concluded.
