With just a few days left until Election Day, there is no telling who will be the next governor of Florida — a new News 13/UF Bob Graham Center Poll released Thursday shows Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Charlie Crist are still in a dead heat.

However, there's something unusual about this most recent poll of likely Florida voters: When asked which candidate they were voting for, a significant number of those polled this time around refused to answer.

The next few days will determine who will be Florida's next governor. Will Republican Rick Scott keep his job? Or will the now-Democrat Charlie Crist make his way back in the Governor's Mansion?

According to our News 13 polling experts, the race is tied at 36 percent apiece. Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie had 6 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, 13 percent of voters polled refused to say who was getting their vote.

"I think it's a pretty fair characterization of where it's at," said News 13 Political Analyst Jeremiah Jaspon (D). "It's always been neck-and-neck, the whole deal."

If you remove the voters who are keeping their mouth shut about their choice for governor, the results are 42 percent for Crist, 41 percent for Scott, and 7 percent for Wyllie.

Voters who identified themselves as independents also favored Crist, who got 35 percent from that group, while both Scott and Wyllie had 18 percent, and 26 percent refused to answer.

"If Crist is in the lead, that will just motivate the Republicans to get out the vote," said News 13 Political Analyst Michelle Ertel (R).

When those voters in our poll who have already cast their ballots during early voting, the results look like this: 39 percent for Crist, 34 percent for Scott, 2 percent said they didn't know, and a whopping 18 percent refused to answer.

"Polls are gage of where you are at, but I've seen just as many times when polls have been inaccurate," said Jaspon.

What is accurate is that people are watching this race. It's close, and it's been brutal.

"It's the nastiest I've ever seen on both sides, right down to the street volunteers taking on each other at the polls," said Ertel. "It's, ugly and I think after this election, both sides need to reassess their behavior."

Once again, all eyes will be on the Sunshine State this coming Tuesday.

About the Poll

The telephone survey of 850 likely Florida voters was conducted Oct. 24–28 for News 13, Bay News 9 and the Tampa Bay Times by the University of Florida's Bob Graham Center for Public Service and Bureau of Economic and Business Research.

The poll, which included respondents using land lines and cell phones, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Results were weighted by age, party registration and media market, thus allowing the results to mirror the distribution in the Florida Voter File.

NOTE: Figures may not sum to 100 percent due to rounding.
