A 17-year-old boy has been charged with shooting and killing a 14-year-old when the two were "just playing around" in Marion County, deputies said.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on the 7600 block of Southeast 121st Place, in Belleview, after a receiving a call that a 14-year-old was shot.

When detectives arrived, they spoke with the older teenager who stated that he and the victim were "just playing around." The teen stated the younger teen was pointing a .20-guage shotgun at him. The 17-year-old then told deputies he picked up a 9 mm handgun, pointed it at the victim and accidentally fired the gun.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 17-year-old was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He's being held at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility without bond.

The names of both teenagers are not being released, per News 13's Crime Guidelines.
