The cool weather is approaching — at least by Florida's standards — and so it's time to help less fortunate children stay warm during the winter months.

And Space Coast residents can pitch in.

The fifth-annual Coats for Kids drive will take place throughout November, and there will be many places across the county were people can drop coats off.

More than 3,000 coats have been collected in previous drives, which are headed by Brevard County Commissioner Andy Anderson.

This year, all donations will be given to the Brevard County Guardian Ad Litem Program, which helps abused and neglected children who find themselves in the hands of the court system.

There are 600 children in the program. It's currently in its 25th year of service to the area.

The coat drive runs from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30. Infant, toddler and small children (under 10 years old) are needed. All Brevard County libraries and Seacoast National Bank locations in Suntree, Titusville, Viera and Melbourne are drop-off locations.

Residents can give the coats to the employees at the front desk.
