The Bushnell Sumter water treatment plant in Sumter County is getting an upgrade, thanks to a new grant.

The $400,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will allow the city of Bushnell to increase the facility’s capacity.

The improvements will increase water pressure at the plant, which provides potable water to commercial customers along Highways 301 and 470.

“It is vital that infrastructure, such as the Bushnell Sumterville water plant, keeps up with the growing needs of the surrounding community,” said DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. “It is critically important to ensure our fire departments have adequate water pressure, along with making certain the citizens of Bushnell continue to have a safe, clean water supply.”

“The Bushnell Sumterville water plant upgrades will ensure that we have the capacity to operate the distribution system successfully,” said Sen. Wilton Simpson. “This is a great investment for the community, and I am pleased that we were able to include it in this year’s budget.”

The project is scheduled for completion in December 2015.
