A cold front has pushed to the south and drier northeast winds have taken over. The air mass is slightly cooler, as indicated Thursday morning’s cooler temperatures in the 50s north and west of Orlando.

Yesterday afternoon featured mostly sunny skies with highs mostly in the low 80s. Coastal areas only topped out in the upper 70s with the influence of the sea breeze coming in off the water.

High pressure is governing our weather pattern here in Central Florida, and is forecast to stick around through the weekend.

The dominant ridge of high pressure is helping to block a surge of tropical moisture originating in the Bay of Campeche with the remnants of Tropical Depression Nine, and it will help steer the area of low pressure toward the western Caribbean in the next few days. Meanwhile, the ridge of high pressure will provide Central Florida with mainly dry days and seasonable temperatures for the duration of the weekend. For the bulk of Central Florida, drier air will filter in behind the low for the weekend yielding to plenty of sunshine each day with highs in the low 80s and lows in the low 60s.

In the tropics, things have quieted down a bit now that there are no threats for at least a couple of days. What was Tropical Depression Nine is now a remnant low. It is poorly organized and will continue to dissipate as it moves over the Yucatan. The other areas of interest, including the low just north of the Yucatan Peninsula and another out in the Atlantic near the Azores, is no longer a concern for tropical development.
