An Orange County corrections officer walked out of jail on bond Thursday after she was arrested on accusations she pointed a semi-automatic weapon at her tenant.

Laura Hindman, 49, posted $4,000 bond earlier in the day. She was arrested Wednesday by Altamonte Springs police on accusations of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators said Hindman got into an argument with a tenant who lives with her at her Altamonte Springs home.

According to a police report, the victim told officers Hindman was upset with him because he wasn't able to pay his rent in full. At one point, the two argued after Hindman expressed how much she hated her job and said she wanted to switch careers and possibly start a business.

Investigators said Hindman was drinking wine during the incident. The tenant then told Hindman that if she started a business, it needed to be full time.

Hindman then got a gun, pointed it at the man and "shook her head up and down, muttering, 'um hum,'" the report states.

After the victim walked away, Hindman fell to the floor, dropped her gun and started crying, the report states.

Hindman was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill, a third-degree felony.

The judge who granted the bond ordered Hindman to stay away from the man, who has since moved out. She was also told to forfeit any weapons and to not drink alcohol.

Hindman's attorney, Heiko Moenckmeier, said the accusations are a big misunderstanding.

"We obviously feel that these allegations are trumped up, and we just ask the community to remain patient," Moenckmeier said. "We think that, ultimately, she'll be vindicated."

Hindman has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of both the criminal and internal investigations, officials said.
