Crews began pouring the foundation for the new Florida Hospital Winter Garden Thursday in West Orange County.

A total of 854 truckloads of concrete will be used in the project, which is being constructed between Daniels Road and State Road 535, across the street from the Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves.

Crews will use more than 1.5 million pounds of reinforcing steel to build the three-story structure, which will include a basement level. Approximately 95 percent of the metal will come from recycled steel.

Officials said the new 75,000-square-foot facility will house a state-of-the-art emergency department, along with imaging services, a multi-specialty physician clinic, a sports medicine and rehabilitation program and outpatient surgery center.

The hospital is scheduled to open in winter 2015.
