The hunt for the Great Pumpkin will go on in a Flagler County city dealing with budget shortfalls.

Earlier this year, faced with a massive budget shortfall, city leaders in Bunnell decided to drop all city-sponsored special events. That included the popular Halloween event around the city’s Colony Park.

This has been an event that has brought families from surrounding cities looking for a safe place for tick-or-treating.

But the party will go on in one week thanks to a pair of local business owners.

Mari Molina and Thea Hein-Mathen will pick up the city’s tab this year. City manager Larry Williams said they’ll trim the budget as much as possible to make that price tag as small as it can be.

Bunnell’s mayor asked that this event be reinstated because it did offer a safe place for kids to spend Halloween evening.
