The 20-year-old man who disappeared after his mother was found dead in her home has been found safe in Maryland.

Jacqueline Ortiz, 45, was found Sunday afternoon at the home off Woodley Park Place near Oviedo in Seminole County.

Joshua Ortiz was found Tuesday evening traveling north on Interstate 95 in Howard County Maryland in his mother's Mustang convertible. He was arrested for grand theft auto. Seminole County investigators plan to meet with him Wednesday.

Investigators have not released how Jacqueline Ortiz was killed.

Oscar Soto, who lives across the street, said he saw Joshua at the house a few days ago, but never noticed anything wrong or out of the ordinary.

“Good family, never any problems. She was a very nice person,” Soto said.

Joshua has a long history of run-ins with the law, much of which from when he was a juvenile. He was also reported as a missing person or runaway numerous times. There were several instances, dating back to as recently as August 2014, when Ortiz’s mother reported that her son stole her car.

During one of those instances, Joshua was charged with also breaking into his father Carmelo Ortiz’s car.

Carmelo is a former Orange County Sheriff's deputy and court officials said Joshua stole his father's Sheriff's Office-issued firearm in 2012.
