A 66-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash along U.S. 1 in Brevard County early Tuesday morning, police said.

Arthur Churchill, of Titusville, was heading southbound on U.S. 1 in Cocoa, just south of Michigan Avenue. Churchill struck an object in the road. Churchill was thrown from his motorcycle and then struck by another vehicle that was also traveling southbound, police said.

The crash happened around 6 a.m., police said. The road was closed as police investigated the crash, but U.S. 1 has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.

More information will be released as the investigation continues, said Barbara Matthews, public information officer for the Cocoa Police Department.
