An aircraft that's more than 70 years old returned to the skies over Brevard County Saturday.

The C-47 Tico Belle was part of the D-Day invasion in 1944.

It's been grounded for several months for maintenance and an engine replacement.

The Valiant Air Command, which has a museum in Titusville, refurbished the plane ensuring it was still air-worthy.

One of the crew members who worked on the C-47 took special pride in getting this plane back in the air.

"We all do this because we love military aviation, and we love the history of it, and to keep this thing flying is really rewarding," said crew member Charles Hammer.

The C-47 will fly some training missions, then go back to a routine of appearing at airshows and making local flights.
