Voters in the City of Clermont will elect a new mayor next month for the first time in 16 years and the city will be giving the current mayor a giant sendoff.

Before Mayor Harold Turville, Jr. was elected in Mayor in 1998, he served more than a decade as a councilman dating back to 1981. Meaning he’s overseen tremendous growth in the city that at that point had thousands more citrus trees than people.

A reception will be held in his honor Sunday at the new Clermont City Center downtown. The open house is from 4:30 to 6:30 and will include a special tribute.

Turville’s successor will also have experience on the Council. Current Councilman Rick VanWagner is running against former Council woman Gail Ash.
