In anticipation on whatever decision is made on Amendment 2, which would legalize medical marijuana in the state, Osceola County Commissioners are looking at ways to regulate.

Recently it was announced that Commissioners will discuss the possibility of a regulating ordinance on medical marijuana defining where their facilities can go in the county. They will be talking about that during their Monday meeting.

However, we caught up with one of the commissioners who told us they want to start a dialogue to get ahead of the issue.

“We are just saying we want to look at other jurisdictions and other local governments to see what they have in place. Pick the good the bad and make our own resolution so that after July to make sure that we handle that properly,” said said Osceola County Commissioner Fred Hawkins Jr.

Amendment 2 is on the November ballot. It is required to pass with a 60 percent vote; if it does pass the Florida Department of Health, along with local governments will have until early July to create regulations for the new system.
