A video of two girls fighting in Flagler County reveals a bigger trend that is gaining traction online.

It's called "friendly fade."

A mother showed News 13 the video of two girls fighting inside a locker room at Buddy Taylor Middle School in Palm Coast last Thursday.

In Friendly fade, two people agree to fight for a little bit. Once the fight is over, the two are supposed to go back to being friends. The videos are sometimes posted on social media.

These two girls are now in trouble with the law. They're being cited for disorderly conducted. If they don't complete a diversionary program, the state attorney's office could take over the case.

Flagler County Public School officials said they are aware of the incident and plan to address it during school assemblies.

“What our schools are going to be doing is continuing that education," said district spokesperson Katrina Townsend. "They’re going to be discussing it during assembly format during lunches."

Since social media can play a role in friendly fade fights, some parents said the school district should have informed them about what happened. Some said they only heard about it for the first time through News 13.

"I’d like to be involved. I want to know what’s going on in my son’s education and if they can’t send me a letter, I will be upset,” said parent Jessica O'Keefe.

“I’m going to ask them if they know about it," said parent Beth Gardner. "I’m going to ask them about this particular incident here at this school or if they’ve been invited to participate or if they’ve heard about that challenge and talk about it.”
