Vintage airplanes and thundering jets are pumping big bucks into the Daytona Beach area.

Jaques Chester brought took his two daughters to Daytona Beach for surf and sand, but what flew over them during the day was a surprise he kept from them on the drive to the coast.

At least a hundred thousand people from all over the state packed onto the World's Most famous beach Saturday and Sunday for the display of aviation skill during the Wings and Waves event.

"Just for the air show I know that's a great event for Gainesville the whole Florida," said Li Chun from Gainsville.

Visitors were treated to flying machines from vintage airplanes to state of the art thunderbirds soaring across blue Daytona Beach skies.

But for many at the shop, the best was the bang for their buck.

"It's absolutely free. We decided a long time ago we shouldn't charge," said Embry riddle President, Dr. John Johnson.

The Wings and Waves air show is held every two years and sponsored by Embry Riddle aeronautical University.

Dr. Johnson says this show brings fascination and pumps money into the local economy when visitors spend on hotels, food and other amenities in the area.

"I've sold a lot, mostly sunglasses, beach towels and beach umbrellas," said the manager of the Beach Bazar souvenir shop, Steven Singh.

Chester is one of those fans who spent money during the day buying food, water, ice cream and other items.

He says he spent what he budgeted for the day bring his two girls to the event.

"Oh, I came here with $250 dollars; personally, that's my budget," said Chester.

Chester says that's what he spent all day during the event, but the thrill his girls experienced watching these flying machines soar through the sky was priceless.
